Tony’s Meats receives Exporter of the Year award

HALIFAX, N.S. - For the first time, two companies, including Antigonish’s Tony’s Meats, were celebrated as the 2018 Nova Scotia Exporters of the Year, at the 34th annual Nova Scotia Export Achievement Awards.
Tony's Meats received the prize for Exporter of the Year, over $5 million and Spring Loaded Technology was awarded the accolade of Exporter of the Year, under $5 million.

The donair, adored by the East Coast, heads south

On a recent Saturday afternoon, 200 Haligonians gathered downtown for a common interest: that absurdly tender kebab of ground beef dressed in a sweet, milky sauce called the donair that is the real last call after a night on any East Coast town. The first-ever Halifax Donair Crawl began at King of Donair, a franchise credited for inventing the signature snack, and continued for two hours until the sixth and final stop on “Pizza Corner”—the Halifax intersection that once featured three pizzerias and where one of the first wraps was sold, in 1973.

ANTIGONISH, NS – Tony’s Meats Ltd., based in Antigonish, Nova Scotia is pleased to announce the company has been purchased by the senior management team. This team includes Dan MacGillivray, General Manager; Aaron Tingley, National Sales Manager and Lenita Hanson, Operations Manager.
Herman Berfelo, Past-President of Tony’s Meats Board of Directors said: “As a result of the Senior Management Team’s demonstrated dedication and commitment to the business going forward, I am absolutely supportive of this team and their efforts to position Tony’s Meats as the premier meat brand in Atlantic Canada and beyond.”

​In 2007, Tony Overmars retired and sold the Company to a small group of farmers who wanted to see the business continue to bring employment and opportunity to Nova Scotians. Over the past number of years, Tony’s Meats has further solidified its market position by expanding its product offerings and achieving SQF certification under the Global Food Safety Initiative.

Dan MacGillivray, General Manager of Tony’s Meats said: “Since 1963 Tony’s Meats has been a major employer in Eastern Nova Scotia. We want to ensure this continues to be the case for many years to come.
